I need a good driving directions site now that map quest never works right anymore?

I can't read the city map it's way too little, not even with my glasses and a magnifying glass! I hate to call my boss and ask where is this address, you know they all have GPS and all that! Does anyone know if you can send driving directions to a cell phone using only text messaging?

Where can I find driving directions for commercial vehicles? (in NY they can use expressways but not parkways?

with Mapquest there is the option to not use any highways but that does not serve my purpose. In NY commercial vehicles can use expressways but not parkways and neither Yahoo nor Google maps seem to offer options for those kind of directions.|||I know your pain. NYC is not very forgiving to commercial vehicles when they get lost or confused. If you have a laptop. Driving Directions for Atlantic City to Cape May Court House Area?

I am trying to decide the best and most simplistic route from the Atlantic City Intl Airport to the Hyland Motor Inn (located 38 East Mechanic Street, CMCH NJ O8210). I need driving directions for someone who is unfamiliar with these areas, which means "back ways" are acceptable as long as they are easy to follow, but I am not seeking any complex short cuts. I have tried yahoo maps, mapquest, and google maps to no avail. All help is tremendously appreciated! :-)|||Taking the parkway is the easy way. I believe the exit is 13, bear right. To be sure, it is the same exit that has the" H " for the hospital sign. So, taking into consideration the problem you mentioned with mapping the whole route, if you just map the exact location and zoom out just a bit, they will get from that parkway exit to your exact location. Rte 9 runs straight through CMCH, also, but it has a lot of slower traffic and lights. Of course print and take the map along. I hope the traveler has plans to visit Cape May, the southern-most tip of NJ. It is a charming Victorian town with the Atlantic ocean and great restaurants, noted for it's B%26amp;B's !|||mapquest.com|||You're going to shoot straight down route 9. It's an easy (if crowded sometimes) clear run down. The details are best worked out using one of the maplinks (Google is better than mapquest, but they'll both do the trick) to get the connections to and from route 9. It's about a half-hour run, but you have the option of popping off at any of the seaside towns on the way, like Stone Harbor or Wildwood, which I actually enjoy more now than in the summer - fewer people. If you have some time, you might also think about going a bit north of AC on rt. 9 to visit Brigantine NWR (I thnk it's now called the Edwin B. Forsyth NWR or some such). It's about 20 mins. north and is a huge wintering ground for waterfowl and other kinds of birds. Lots of trails, both driving and walking, and the gift shop rents out binoculars if you don't have any.

How do you save and file a map and driving directions from google maps

I would use PDFCreator http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreat鈥?/a> which sets up a fake printer. Anything you print there gets saved as a PDF (or JPEG, etc.).|||copy and paste it into a notepad..then save that.

How do maps (like on Google or Mapquest) know exactly where a house is and are able to give driving directions

How do maps (like on Google or Mapquest) know exactly where a house is and are able to give driving directions to/from it?|||How does mapquest know where a house is?

Simple answer, they guess. Thats right, they guess. Mapquest has an algorithm called Geocoding which uses the US post office data (for US maps) to guess (quire accurately typically) the latitude and longitude of the address you specify. Geocoding takes the address and compares it to the number of addresses the US post office says is on the current block, and guesses based upon how many addresses there are and the address supplied. For example, suppose you ask for 135 Main St. Now mapquest looks up the info it has for Main St as it is supplied by the US post office, which consists of the address on the end of the block (have you ever seen the signs that say "400" on a street sign?). Now suppose that 135 Main lies on the block that starts at 100 Main and ends at 400 Main. This means there are 300 addresses on this block. Each address is assumed to take 1/300th of the street space. Thus 135 Main will lie 35/300th's of the distance from the 100 end of the block to the other side of the block. Mapquest knows the latitude and longitude of the intersections and computes the lat/long of the address using these numbers. How is mapquest able to give driving directions?

Again, they guess. They have very good ways of guessing, but without a massive amount of computation it is not possible to give a perfect answer. Typically the method used for such driving directions is an example of something called a "greedy algorithm". I would hazard a guess that they actually use a form of an A* ("A Star") algorithm, but the technicalities are not important. Basically the algorithm takes a location and looks at all possible directions a person can go if they are at a specified location and chooses the direction which gets the person closer to their goal. They call this a "greedy" algorithm because it continually tries to get closer to the goal. Typically this type of search arrives at the best solution. Other considerations such as travel time are taken into consideration in the real calculations.

Can I use a Google driving directions printout as proof of my miles to the job?

I do housekeeping and odd jobs to get buy financially. I made a little over $500 last yeat. I know i have to file a Sched. C. Can I count my miles to and from the jobs? Can I use a google printout showing miles to the site from my house? I only get one job in a day and it's what I do to help pay my bills. I couldn't have gotten bye without it. Not sure what to do here cause I didn't write down mileage from car......i'm a bit ADHD and hard to stay organized that way.|||while the Google or MapQuest report would be fine, there is an issue of deducting the mileage at all.

Yes, you're self-employed in housekeeping. but, no -- the primary place of business isn't your house, it is where you render the service [you never had any expectation otherwise]. that means the mileage is commuting mileage and not deductible.|||That's a wonderful idea!|||mileage from your home to your first place of work is not deductible, the mileage to other jobs, errands etc would be but driving from home to the place you work is commuting and never deductible|||It's not a bad idea but commuting to work is never deductible.

How to show WALKING not DRIVING directions via google maps?

Driving directions are great, but in a town of one way streets, when the goal is to walk from point A to point B, wanted to know if there is a way to show WALKING directions via google maps. Thanks.|||There isn't a simple way to do that, I haven't seen a feature that alternates between the 2, the closest I've seen is the "no highway" option.

Although, if you were to zoom in (at least it's like this on Mapquest) you can see arrows on one way streets showing the direction of traffic on that particular road.

Hope this helps.|||Not sure if this is going to get back to Frank or not, but the answer to your question is to google the following: google pedometer. It will bring up the link to a google maps hack which allows you to map distances walking. Below is the link.

|||use the driving directions but instead of driving just walk along the route|||Try Ask Maps for walking directions: http://maps.ask.com

There's also Google Transit, but only for a small number of places: http://www.google.com/transit

For England, there's http://www.walkit.com/|||If they don't offer this it will be a good idea to start thinking about it. Good Job!|||You can get the general directions and then use Google earth to plot out a path. Check www.walkscore.com/ to see how walkable is the place you are wanting to go.|||Google currently does not offer walking directions. I suggest using the driving directions, printing it, looking at the google map and then just jot down some direction edits. There shouldn't be to many changes.

You know what's funny though? Google directions from like New York, NY to London, England...google will tell you to swim accross the Atlanic.
